On 22nd January, 2015, Wanda Cinema Line Co., Ltd (002739.SZ) has successfully launched its IPO to become the first A share cinema industry stock on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.
Since its inception, Wanda Cinema Line has been growing rapidly. For the last 5 years from 2009 onwards, Wanda Cinemas has been the leader in terms of box office sales, market share and number of visitations, with a CAGR of 30% over 2011, 2012 and 2013. As of today, Wanda Cinemas has the largest number of IMAX screens, with 94 in operation that accounts for 61% of the commercial IMAX market nationwide. Wanda Cinema also has over 20 million members, the largest cinema membership in the world.
The market has estimated the total box office sales in China has reached 29.6 billion yuan in 2014, up 36% as compared to 2013. In the listing prospectus of Wanda Cinema, as of Dec 31st, 2013, the company's box office sales were 3.16 billion yuan.
On 17 January, 2015, Wanda Group announced its fourth transformation strategy, with the culture & tourism segment emerging as one of the company’s four core businesses. Among the existing businesses in Wanda’s Culture & Tourism sector, the film related division, which also includes cinema and upstream film production businesses has seen the most stable revenue growth.
