Wanda Group Chairman Wang Jianlin was honored as China's Outstanding Individual for Poverty Alleviation, receiving the award at China Poverty Alleviation Work Meeting held by the State Council on October 17, 2014, the country's first Poverty Alleviation Day.

Since the Wanda Group was founded, the company has built up a philosophy of "Creating Common Prosperity through Serving the Community". 26 years on, Wanda has donated more than 3.7 billion yuan to charity, more than any domestic private enterprise. Poverty alleviation is an important part of the company's corporate philanthropy, which is why the company consistently strives to identify way to alleviate poverty that achieved significant effects. The company has won the China Charity Award 7 times, which is more than any other company. Wanda Group is also a recipient of the China Poverty Eradication Award, issued by the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation and the China Guangcai Outstanding Contribution Award.

As one of the pioneer companies in poverty alleviation, Wanda Group began supporting the underprivileged at a very early stage of its development. Wanda made its first donation of 1 million yuan in 1990, at a time when the company was only 2 years old and corporate philanthropy was still in its infancy in China. In 1994, Wanda Group set up a poverty alleviation initiative to support Taiyang village in Anbo Town in Pulandian City, Dalian. Wanda Group took multiple measures to help the village, such as building a village elementary school, introducing high-yield crop varieties to newly established fruit plant bases, supporting the newly established Taiyang Village construction company with favorable contract and payment conditions offered by Wanda group, with a promise of a percentage of profits generated by those projects to be injected back into the poverty alleviation fund. After 20 years of development, the GDP of Taiyang village reached 12,000 yuan, which ranks the top among Anbo Town.

In response to the calling of the government, and in order to carry out corporate social responsibility, Wanda Group has decided to begin a major poverty alleviation project with Danzhai town, Qiandongnan, Guizhou province, exploring a new model to fight poverty.
