20.01.2015
2014 proved to be a resounding success for Wanda, not only for their business initiatives but also for their philanthropic efforts. Aside from their poverty alleviation efforts in Danzhai, the Group donated a total of 320 million yuan to a number of causes across the country. With the commencement of the poverty alleviation project Danzhai, Guizhou, and the first batch of student entrepreneurs achieving remarkable levels of innovation in Wanda Plazas, 2014 was an outstanding year for charity.
Last year Wanda reached out to counterparts in Danzhai County, Guizhou, and planned an investment of 1 billion yuan into education and industry that aims to directly benefit those most at risk of poverty in Danzhai. This investment, scheduled to be rolled out over a five year period, will effectively double per capita income and virtually lift the entire county out of poverty, heralding a new model of sustainable development in China where enterprises take on poverty at local levels. The investment will, among other things, go towards the construction of a technical college in Danzhai, a pig farming and slaughtering factory with a capacity of 300,000 and deep processing projects, the opportunity for 800 Danzhai workers to be offered employment in Wanda each year, and additionally, in cooperation with local construction businesses, a further 10,000 farmers from Danzhai to be offered local employment.
In 2013, Wanda Group introduced a ten-year plan to support entrepreneurial students. Every year until 2022, the company will invest 50 million to help 100 students open businesses in 50 Wanda Plaza locations. In 2014, Wanda chose their first batch of students from 10 universities, and these individuals went on to open stores in 22 different Wanda Plazas. 95% of these new businesses achieved not only positive results, but remarkable success.
Wanda Group also sets the bar high for job creation, the payment of taxes, green initiatives and volunteering efforts. 2014 saw the opening of 24 Wanda Plazas, 18 five-star hotels, the creation of 146,000 urban service jobs, 13,566 of which joined Wanda, and the recruitment of 42,468 students, 7,251 of which also joined the company. Last year Wanda Group accounted for 1% of China’s total annual employment with over one million jobs.
The Group also paid a total of 27.42 billion yuan in taxes last year, a year over year increase of 21% and remained a leader in tax payable by private enterprises in China.
Wanda received GBDL certifications from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Rural Development (MoHURD) for a total of 67 projects over the year, and 17 Wanda Plazas received green building operation certifications, accounting for 30% of the country’s certified green buildings in 2014. The company’s achievements in environmental protection were head and shoulders above any other Chinese business.
Wanda organized a total of 1312 volunteer activities in 2014 with 96,309 participants each time, which means each employee volunteered at least once over the year.
