'Go Away Mr. Tumor' fetched RMB 300 million box office
20.08.2015Wanda Pictures is definitely a successful movie producer this summer. After its popular hit Pancake Man snapped up RMB1.1 billion in box office revenue in July, a romantic comedy Go Away Mr. Tumor arrived at movie theatres on August 13 and raked in RMB300 million in just eight days. With the two best-selling movies, Wanda Pictures has already registered RMB2.9 billion in box office receipts this year, more than any other privately-held movie producer in China.
Go Away Mr. Tumor is directed by Han Yan and stars Bai Baihe and Daniel Wu. The film was the best-selling one when it took RMB 54 million on the first day, and continued to hold on to its position at the top of the Chinese box office for the week with RMB200 million ticket sales in four days. The movie fetched 41% of the total box office revenue although it was only given 28% of the screening time. Its total revenue is expected to exceed RMB600 million.
Go Away Mr. Tumor tells the real-life story of popular Chinese cartoonist Xiong Dun. The 29-year-old girl was diagnosed with cancer, but she remained optimistic even at the toughest time of the life.
