Construction begins on Chengdu Wanda City-China’s largest cultural tourism project

A groundbreaking ceremony was held for Chengdu Wanda Cultural Tourism City (“Chengdu Wanda City”) on September 25. This development will be Wanda Group’s tenth cultural project to begin construction as well as the largest and most fully equipped cultural project in China.  

The RMB 53 billion development occupies a 310-hectare site in Chengdu’s Binjiang Dujiangyan New District. The project will include a Wanda Mall, outdoor theme park, stage show theatre, luxury resorts, a bar street and much more. Chengdu Wanda City is a first-rate, one of a kind and completely unique development in terms of both its design and construction. Many of the projects facilities are state-of-the-art and independently designed by Wanda, fully displaying the unique characteristics of local Sichuan culture.

Wanda Mall is the centerpiece of the Wanda City development. It includes various facilities such as an indoor ski park, horror park, movie park and shopping mall. Since the Wanda Mall is an indoor complex it remains operational throughout the entire year.

The indoor ski park is the worlds most advanced fourth generation facility with four ski slopes of differing gradients including a 70-meter steep drop.  Wanda Mall will a unique Horror Park that will include a rollercoaster and other thrilling rides. The development will also house a Wanda Movie Park with rides designed in accordance with local Sichuan culture. In addition, Wanda will add its own stage show “The Qingcheng Show”, which will fuse cultural elements such as acrobatics and martial arts together with state-of-the-art stage equipment to create a leading international theatrical masterpiece.

In addition to the mall, Chengdu Wanda City will include an outdoor theme park on a scale comparable to Disneyland that will house attractions such as the world’s biggest inverted roller-coaster.

The development will also house a premium six-star luxury resort and two four-star hotels, as well as a lakeside bar street that will be home to 20 famous bars from China and overseas.

Chengdu Wanda City, which plans to open at the end of 2018, is expected to create over 30,000 jobs, attract up to 20 million annual visitors and generate RMB 5 billion in annual tourism revenue.
