Wanda’s AMC acquires Starplex Cinemas

AMC Entertainment announced the completion of acquisition of Starplex Cinemas on December 16.

The Kansas-based AMC is owned by Wanda Film & TV Holdings Company and the second largest cinema chain in the US.

Starplex operates 33 cinemas and 346 screens across 12 states in the US. This acquisition made it possible for AMC to expanded its market from large and mid-sized cities to smaller ones.
 
On December 15, AMC’s board of directors announced to name Adam M. Aron as chief executive and president of the company. Mr. Aron is currently Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc. His career in the past 20 years has included leadership of some of the world’s most notable brands. He will assume the office on January 4.
