The design plan from Kengo Kuma and Crone Partner
Judges for Wanda selected a willing proposal for the design of Wanda’s No. 1 Sydney project hotel tower on June 2 and June 3.

Through in-depth discussion, judges reached consensus, awarding a plan from Kengo Kuma and Crone Partner. The plan demonstrates an excellent understanding of urban design, forms dynamic public space within the design and creates a new landmark building at the corner of Alfred Street and Pitt Street.

After the Phase I approval in March 2016, Wanda Group, represented by Urbis company, carried out the international competition for the hotel tower plans in accordance with Sydney’s Department of Planning regulations. Six international companies granted approvals from Wanda Group and City of Sydney Department of Planning to participate in this competition.

Competition judges included panel president Peter Mould (state government architect), James Weirick (University of New South Wales professor), Peter John Cantrill (expert with Department of Planning, City of Sydney), Xing Ruan (University of New South Wales professor), Shen Wenzhong (Deputy manager of Wanda Commercial Planning & Research Institute) and Li Yue (design manager of Wanda Sydney project company). The officer of Department of Planning, City of Sydney Chris Corradi (head of regional planning) attended as an observer, while Chris Ashworth (senior planner) also attended.
