Wanda Plaza Openings on Track to Hit Its Target, Over 180,000 Service Jobs to Be Created in 2020

On June 25, Jiangsu Province witnessed the openings of two brand new Wanda Plazas, kicking off a wave of new openings of Wanda Plazas in 2020. Wanda Commercial Management Group is going to open three more new Wanda Plazas in July, and a total of 45 new Wanda Plazas will be added by the end of the year. This was the plan laid out at the beginning of 2020.
On February 23, General Secretary Xi Jinping set forth plans for the orderly resumption of work and production at a meeting to advance the coordination work on prevention and control of COVID-19 and economic and social development. In response to the call of General Secretary Xi, and with firm confidence in the recovery of China's consumer market, Wanda Commercial Management Group has decided to move up the opening dates of two Wanda Plazas in Kunshan and Nantong. Thanks to a wide variety of measures employed by Wanda to boost store visits and sales, consumer traffic as well as consumption are steadily increasing at Wanda Plazas around the country.
As a labor-intensive modern service provider, Wanda Plazas are able to create a great variety of jobs, including management positions, such as store managers and professional managers, and skilled jobs in sales, procurement and kitchens. The Plazas also offer basic jobs such as security, sanitary and so forth. The inclusive nature of Wanda Plazas will effectively reduce the pressure on urban unemployment by offering jobs to city workers of all ranks. The newly opened Wanda Plazas in Kunshan and Nantong have created about 8,000 service jobs, more than 50% of which have gone to college graduates.
In the past, college graduates took about 40% of the jobs in Wanda Plazas. In view of the large number of college graduates this year and the daunting unemployment pressure caused by the pandemic, Wanda Commercial Management Group requires all new Wanda Plazas to recruit more college graduates to ensure that more than 50% of the new jobs in Wanda Plazas are to be offered to fresh graduates. By the end of 2020, 45 new Wanda Plazas that are to be completed are to create 180,000 to 200,000 jobs, and 90,000 to 100,000 of those positions will be given to college graduates.
