Inauguration of Shijingshan Wanda Plaza and Pullman Beijing West Wanda

On December 20, Wanda Group completed two pioneering undertakings simultaneously by inaugurating the Beijing Shijingshan Wanda Plaza and the Pullman Beijing West Wanda. Added with the Beijing CBD Wanda Plaza that opened in 2006, Wanda Group realized its goal of having “two Wanda Plazas along Chang’an Avenue”, thus becoming the enterprise in China that has two commercial centers along Chang’an Avenue. The five-star Pullman Beijing West Wanda was the second of its kind inaugurated by Wanda Group three days after its super five-star Sofitel Wanda Ningbo opened on December 18. This was a miracle made by any Chinese enterprises in inaugurating two five-star hotels at such a short interval.

In 2008, China encountered the challenges of snow and ice disaster in the south, the strong earthquake in Wenchuan, Sichuan and the world economic crisis. As a result, its economic growth posted a significant slowdown and in particular its real estate industry saw transactions drastically shrinking and its sales revenue falling dramatically. Most enterprises had operational difficulties. In early 2008, however, Wanda Group made strategic adjustments in light of possible economic changes to ensure the enterprise could operate in a healthy and sustainable way. As planned, it opened two city complexes, namely the Xi’an Wanda Plaza and the Beijing Shijingshan Wanda Plaza, and two five-star hotels, namely the Sofitel Wanda Ningbo and the Pullman Beijing West Wanda. This was a full testimony to Wanda Group’s strong core competitiveness and risk-resisting capacity in the commercial real estate sector.

The 3 billion yuan Shijingshan Wanda Plaza is located on Beijing’s Chang’an Avenue. It is a large city complex that incorporates shopping plaza, five-star hotel, 5A office building and apartment building. The complex has a shopping plaza boasting of the major stores such as Carrifour, Wanda International Cinemas and Gome Home Appliances and a 180-meter-long three-storey indoor mall. A one-stop shopping center incorporating fashion, shopping, recreation, entertainment and food, it offers a perfect experience to consumers. The inauguration of the Beijing Shijingshan Wanda Plaza has changed the history that there was no large modern commercial center in the western part of Beijing. While the plaza can greatly improve the consumption environment in Shijingshan District, it creates nearly 10,000 jobs and generates tax revenue totaling hundreds of millions yuan. So far, Wanda Group has opened a total of 19 city complexes.
